The best thing that has worked thus far is to hold this child above the knees and push back gently--suggestion by my wonderful para! That way the child actually feels the scooting back when her arms are holding the toilet.

I don't have any great ideas, and maybe you've already done this, but I was thinking that whenever I am out of ideas our PT and OT always have some new ones. And maybe since they are a little more removed from the situation, they always seem to have a fresh view of it too. Good luck!

An alternate assessment based on alternate achievement standards, the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS), is provided for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. A second alternate assessment, the MCA-Modified, which is based on modified achievement standards, is being developed. The MCA-Modified is being designed for a small group of students whose disability has precluded them from achieving grade-level proficiency. The first operational administration on the MCA-Modified is planned for spring 2011.
For more information check the Minneosta web site: http://education.state.mn.us/MDE/Accountability_Programs/Assessment_and_Testing/Assessments/Alternate/index.html

Sherri, I talked with Pam Tvedt: she will help you with the survey committee. Just let her know whether it is the 8th or 15th of January. She should be a member of this site. if not here is her email. Pam Tvedt <pamela.tvedt@byron.k12.mn.us>

Here are some websites that you may find useful. These are specific to LD, but I have several reading, math and writing sites that I will add if anyone is interested. If any of the rest of you have some favorite sites, please share them. www.ldonline www.ldanatl.org www.schwablearning.org-good LD site www.enablemart.com-good site for seeing some of the products available for our students--including assistive technology http://nrcld.org--click on "Resources" tab when you get there. Has some excellent ideas on progress monitoring and writing IEP goals and objectives that coincide with the progress monitoring.

The High School SLD staff liked the RtI presentation, the Elementary staff said it was basically a review for them. The group as a whole thought all the information was good and useful.
The group would like to get favorite web-sites posted through WIKKI instead of waiting until March. The group wanted their next agenda to have time in it to have each district bring curriculum, strategies, etc, they would also like members to share some of this on the WIKKI site.
AGENDA for 3/18/2010 Curriculum/Strategies sharing by each district (Round table) Goal development based on MN General Education Standards when the student is found significantly below meeting the grade level standard

We have Fun Friday--about an hour or so sometime each Friday. The kids vote on "things to do". So far, we have taken a trip to Dairy Queen and then followed up with practice of thank you notes, watched movies, made an arts/craft projects and taught them to a lower level grade. Do you have any other ideas we could use? My director Lynna Reese suggested this, and the kids love it. We will do the activities mentioned above, but I am always looking for more ideas. It is so good for our students--they are actually being the leaders. I thought we would practice reading and read to other younger students, too. Thanks-Linda
