I am speaking for the Pine Island Elem./M.S. LD Department only. Since we all teach different age groups or populations, I think it will be easier if I speak for the tools that I use and let the others in my school speak to what they use. With that said, here is what I am currently using:Reading: basic reading skills, reading fluency: All our K-8 teachers were trained on Intensive Phonics/Reading Horizon this summer. It is based on Orton-Gillingham. What I like is the "marking" system that is used, the fact that the kids are active in their learning-(it requires that they move their hands as they are taught the sounds and are often standing at the white board or using "cling sheets"--thus allowing your students that need movement to "move", and finally, the fact that there are only a few basic rules for the students to remember is a positive. I am giving this program a "3". If you would like to learn more about the program, go to readinghorizons.com. There are several video presentations that give you some idea of what it's all about. For math we just received the SpEd version that correlates with the Math Connects by Macmillan/McGraw-Hill that is being used in the regular ed. classroom. It is called Triumphs. We are using this in Grades 3-8. I have not used this enough yet to give it a rating. We use Read Naturally, which I give a 2-3 rating. I use Handwriting Without Tears. Rating 3 I use the Leveled Readers from the Scott Foresman series. I use organizational binders for my OHD students and some ADHD students as well. I am anxious to hear what others are using.
